# Minting

> Mint your Beacon NFT — the dormant vessel of your future Gotchipus

## What is Minting?

Minting is the first step in your Gotchipus journey. When you mint, you receive a **Beacon NFT** — a dormant vessel waiting to be awakened through the [summoning ritual](/gameplay/summoning).

A Beacon is not yet a living Gotchipus. Think of it as an empty shell, a signal that will call your companion forth from the deep.

## How to Mint

1. Open the **Mint** window from the desktop
2. Connect your wallet if you haven't already
3. Select the number of Beacons to mint (1–30)
4. Click **Mint** and confirm the transaction
5. Your Beacon NFT(s) appear in your wallet

## Whitelist

Whitelisted addresses can mint **one Beacon for free** (no mint cost). Whitelist status is managed by the project team.

## After Minting

Your Beacon NFT is ready, but it's still dormant. To bring it to life, you need to [summon](/gameplay/summoning) it — staking collateral to awaken a living Gotchipus with a soul, a name, and a unique identity.
